End of Eurochamps
Team GB
Well, my first place was good for the day it lasted. I'm not quite sure what happened on Saturday, I just couldn't get the boat to move round like I had done previously. Perhaps I should have stuck with going for the right-hand ends to get in the cleans and supercleans instead of switching to left. My loops didn't work again, so maybe I should have left them out completely, although if I had scored one it would have doubled my points. Anyhow, I ended up with only 86/87 points on each ride and was out of the competition in 8th place.
I get some cleans in the heats:

As some consolation my ride on Friday was the highest scoring in the whole Ladies competition.
The big air competition was good fun to watch with big boats going big! A good photo here
The GB team take their place at the bar. We know who you are.

On Sunday my ears gradually became numb to the sounds of Burdock (they couldn't play any copyrighted music as sky sports were filming) and we were constantly looking for small areas of shade (there wasn't much around) to get out of the heat as we tried to recover from the night before. The finals were almost as tense to watch as the England football match on Saturday. It was a difficult feature to complete the higher scoring moves everytime, so in several categories the medals could have been won by anyone - decided by who managed to score the moves in the right rides. A full write-up from each day of competition is here
Jeff got some great moves in his quarter final rides, with not a cartwheel in sight!

The squirt competition was a good one to watch as it involved some long downtime, and it was held in the same place as the rest of the competition so the spectators didn't have to hike 2 miles up/downstream to watch it. Claire O'Hara (pictured below) did well to make it to the finals in the (apart from Molly) men's category.

Overall the event was a great success, although there were some reservations about the feature it turned out to be workable, with many big aerial moves to please the crowd. The weather was fantastic making it all the more enjoyable to sit around and watch, and this meant huge numbers of people took part in the 'come and try it' sessions on the lake. Well done to Pete Astles for organising everything.
